If you are interested in decoys, both old and new, you will hear from three of today’s most acclaimed carvers– Ray Whetzel, Bruce Eppard and William Bruce – to discuss how the tools and traditions of Chesapeake Bay decoy carvers of the past 100 years find their way into their modern creations. The session will be moderated by Chad Tragakis, a regular contributor to Decoy Magazine and president of the Potomac Decoy Collector’s Association. Hosted at the College of Southern Maryland, La Plata campus 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata, MD 20646 (Directions).

Potomac Wildlife Working Decoy Competition
Saturday, May 14 - 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Entry Fee is $10 for first decoy, $4 each additional
decoy with a maximum of $45 charged
Entries for the competition will be received from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and the judging will begin at 12:00 p.m. Registration must be completed prior to the start of the competition (Download Decoy Registration Form).

In the adjacent room (BI 103/104), we will house the Southern Maryland Woodcarvers and the Southern Maryland Carousel Group. The items on display for sale include hand carved wooden flowers, ducks birds, caricatures and more. The members participating will be:

On Saturday, members of the Rappahannock Carvers and Collectors Guild will be sharing the room with the wood carvers and running the Working Decoy Competition.
In the third room (BI 124), the President of the Potomac Decoy Collectors Association (PDCA), some members of the PDCA and owner of Decoy Magazine, Joe Engers, will display their magazines and collection of antique decoys and water fowling artifacts. In addition, they will be ready to appraise, identify and possibly buy decoys visitors bring in from home.
