4th Annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon

Community Foundation of Charles County
Celebrates Philanthropy Day
Approximately 150 people joined the Community Foundation of Charles County (CFCC) at the 4th Annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center. The event recognized and honored people who gave their time or money to help nonprofit organizations in Charles County.
National Philanthropy Day (NPD) is a special day set aside each year in November to recognize the contributions of philanthropy by people and organizations active in the philanthropic community. NPD celebrates the endless contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.
The awards recognize the outstanding achievements of philanthropists, volunteers, youth volunteers, corporations and non-profit organizations whose contributions have made a significant impact in Charles County.
Mr. Spicer Bell, President of the Community Foundation of the Easter Shore, delivered the keynote speech and eloquently spoke of the role and importance of community foundations. He shared with the guests many examples of the work that his community foundation had accomplished in his community. Mr. Bell shared the importance of each and every contribution made within the community (illustrated by the Starfish Story) and left attendees with a giving spirit, each realizing the difference their efforts can make. Edith Wharton in Words of Wisdom said “there are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Each of the 2009 nominees and award winners are the candles spreading the light in our community. We thank them for their giving spirit and commitment to this community.
