6th Annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon
Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center November 18, 2011, 11:30am - 1:30pm
We are proud to honor the individuals, organizations and businesses nominated by their peers, who have contributed an extraordinary amount of time, money and service to help 'make Charles County the best place to live and give'.
Each year hundreds of community foundations throughout the US and Canada honor the philanthropic efforts of individuals, businesses and nonprofits who have demonstrated philanthropy and enhanced their communities. Charles County's 2011 top philanthropists, business leaders and individuals will be honored at the 2011 Annual Philanthropy Day luncheon on Friday, November 18, 2011, 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center. This is the Community Foundation of Charles County’s (CFCC) signature event thus far recognizing nearly 40 individuals, businesses and nonprofits since our first luncheon held in November of 2006. (View past award recipients)
Along with our annual awards, CFCC is recognizing folks who have served their entire life in an exemplary way. We know there are many residents of Charles County who quietly give to the community, yet because a huge monetary contribution to any one organization or program or project cannot be tied to them directly --- their impact of selfless service remains unrecognized. It is their selfless commitment to the community and their unique ability to motivate others that we want to recognize.

Business of the Year Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
Nonprofit of the Year Charles County Rotary Club of La Plata
Volunteer of the Year Dorothea Smith

This year’s theme of giving thanks coincides with our upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. In addition to the awards luncheon, the Foundation is asking attendees to bring two non-perishable food items with them to support a local food pantry.
Keynote Speaker: Ellen Allen, Founder and CEO of Ellen Allen Annapolis
Ellen Allen, a southern Maryland native, was born and raised on a working farm on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. It was here when Ellen was first inspired by coastal designs. As a working Mom, Ellen’s need for function and flexibility and her eye for fashion and design led her to establish her own signature brand of lifestyle products, Ellen Allen Annapolis. Ellen’s totes and handbags are made of durable fabrics, vibrant colors, and classic stripes combined with patterns inspired by Annapolis architecture. In addition to creating the perfect bag, Ellen believes strongly in the “fabric” of community and has been a generous donor to countless community nonprofit organizations. In late 2010, Ellen Allen Annapolis selected the Ronald McDonald House of Baltimore as its charity of choice, donating a portion of every sale to the operating budget of the House.
In addition, Ellen Allen Annapolis recently hosted a benefit luncheon and raised $3500 for the Ronald McDonald House.
As a woman who loves her career and is devoted to her family, graceful living and balance define her life and guide her everyday choices.
